How Hegseth Shattered the World Eisenhower Created

General Dwight D. Eisenhower was not strong, at least as far as we know. He didn’t work out in public or show off his abs, and there’s no record of him leading troops in aerobics or challenging his peers to pull-up competitions. As far as we know, he doesn’t even have any tattoos.

Eisenhower may not have been a “bearded man” or a “weirdo” recent words But if he were alive today, he would probably call the defense secretary a coward, maybe even a radical. The 34th president almost certainly would not have thought of him as a “warrior,” a term Hegseth used to describe a muscled, tough bully ready to engage in hand-to-hand combat with his enemies.

Still, Eisenhower remains one of America’s most famous generals, having led the Allied invasion of Europe, served as Army chief of staff, helped create NATO, and served as the first Supreme Allied Commander. Although Eisenhower never saw combat, he rose through the ranks due to his prowess in strategy, logistics, and diplomacy, skills that had been highly valued in the military in the past.

Not long ago, it was recognized that in the modern world, “warrior spirit” depends more on brains than brawn, and it was Eisenhower’s talents in alliance management, logistical organization, discipline, and strategic patience that made him a successful wartime leader.

But these qualities are now outdated. When Donald Trump named “Fox & Friends Weekend” co-host Hegseth as defense secretary, it was largely because the president thought Hegseth looked like he was “cast from the center” — a square jaw, Sgt. rock style Cartoon hero. They met when Hegseth began serving a group of people accused of war crimesand persuaded Trump to intervene on their behalf, which he did despite strong objections from top military brass.

Hegseth has the attitude that Trump wants to lead the military, and he won’t feel constrained by all the rules and regulations that, in his view, made the United States a weak loser state under the former president. After taking office at the Pentagon, the Secretary of State quickly began to cultivate his “warrior spirit” and personally led the charge on the most important battlefield in the United States: the front lines of the culture war. he Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Policies Defeated One by one, all women and people of color who were more important than white men were eliminated. He called all the officials to sit down and listen to him teach them a lesson About what a true military leader should look like. After all, Hegseth had served as a platoon leader in the National Guard and for a time as a prison guard, so he knew what he was talking about. He proved time and time again that he was in excellent physical shape by performing jumping jacks and jogging with soldiers wherever he went, apparently the only true test of military leadership.

Meanwhile, Heggs pursued a murderous policy on the high seas, ordering the military to immediately kill people on small boats in the Caribbean and Western Pacific who, according to the Pentagon, were suspected of drug trafficking. He was also in charge of the forces that were losing the war with Iran, and he seemed strangely disconnected from the conflict, even though he was busy planning one (later canceled) public execution, hold prayer meeting, Mandatory testosterone testing And all the jogging.

While Hegseth would certainly have fired Eisenhower for lacking the proper “warrior spirit” before the future president became a five-star general, he did seem to enjoy basking in the glow of the tremendous victory Eisenhower led in World War II.

While Hegseth would certainly have fired Eisenhower for lacking the proper “warrior spirit” before the future president became a five-star general, he did seem to enjoy basking in the glow of the tremendous victory Eisenhower led in World War II. The secretary also made it clear interesting idea Eisenhower twice successfully ran for president after helping to rebuild Europe. (Which, by the way, Eisenhower wholeheartedly agreed with Change the name of the Department of the Army The decision was presented to the Department of Defense in 1949, and Hegseth and Trump sought to overturn it. )

Hegseth clearly sees himself as a modern leader in a similar stature to Ike. according to washington postWhen Hegseth took office, he discovered a relic that had once belonged to Eisenhower: a handmade globe that the general had reportedly used during the war, and it even had some markings on it that he might have placed himself. Hegseth asked that it be moved to his office. During the partial government shutdown over immigration, he furloughed the people who handled such matters, and since he was notoriously impatient, Hegseth sent a few lackeys to immediately retrieve the historical artifact.

Not realizing its weight and having no experience caring for precious artifacts—or, according to the report, not hearing the warning—the crew dropped the globe and broke it. They ended up leaving it where it was with a big hole in it.

There are metaphors, there are metaphors, but this one is too harsh. Eisenhower and the United States, which helped rebuild the world after World War II, realized that the old, primitive ways were too dangerous to survive in the nuclear age. They used diplomacy and alliances to build a bulwark against German and Japanese aggression against the world, and despite some glaring abuses and exceptions, the order largely endured for 70 years.

Then Trump and his aides like Hegseth showed up. Indifferent to the enormous responsibility they have to maintain the stability and security of this fragile planet, and without the knowledge or experience of how to do so, they undermined the world order that Eisenhower led and represented. They don’t seem to think it’s important.

These foolhardy people believe the government is acting like a reality TV show, above all trying to appear tough and project power through cartoon clichés and cheap propaganda. They completely ignored the symbolism of that globe and its significance, just as they completely ignored Eisenhower’s legacy.

Besides winning D-Day and commanding NATO, perhaps Eisenhower’s most famous moment came in January 1961 farewell speech As president, when he warned of the military-industrial complex, he said it could drain public resources, threaten democratic governance and social balance, and put profits ahead of national security. His warnings came true long ago, but now the Trump administration is taking them to a completely different level. Heggs is Strict requirements By 2027, the Pentagon will invest a total of nearly $1.5 trillion, calling it “the investment of a generation.” Elon Musk and his Starlink system now appear to be more or less do it yourself, putting global security at serious risk.

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, sometimes it’s not. This administration has damaged the world and no one knows if it can be fixed. But even if it could be pieced together, it would never be the same.
