The Church of the Resurrection, led by Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Adam Hamilton of Kansas, encourages the use of gender-neutral terms instead of referring to boys and girls to make children “feel welcome,” including an image that cited a transgender singer and LGBTQ activist as an inspiration, according to Breitbart News.
“Hey! During our conversation on Sunday we discussed our wording and working to become more gender neutral so that all kids feel welcome… Here is our committed list of words we can start using instead of boys/girls,” the message read.
The message, provided to Breitbart News, includes an image titled “Gender-neutral terms for addressing groups,” which contains dozens of suggested alternatives to gender-specific greetings, including “peep-a-doodles,” “homo sapiens,” “niblings,” “kiddos,” “kitties,” “homo sapiens,” “niblings,” “kiddos,” “kitties,” “comrades,” and “folks.”

At the bottom of the image, an attribute reads: “Inspired by @sara.levine1 @themilajam.”
The latter account belongs to Mila Jam, whose full name is Jahmila Adderley. Wikipedia describe Jam is an American transgender singer, songwriter, dancer, actor, and LGBTQ activist.
jam Famous became “the first black trans artist to co-title Boston Pride” and promotion identifies as non-binary and wrote: “Happy Non-Binary Awareness Week to all my Enbi family.”
During the 2024 Democratic National Convention, Jam commend Former first lady Michelle Obama wrote: “There is nothing like witnessing the Queen of ‘Do Something’ in person.” Ahead of the presidential election, Jam expressive Supporting former Vice President Kamala Harris, shared a photo of an early voting sticker with the caption, “Get ready for the president’s wife.” After the election, Jam wrote“When I grow up, I want to be protected, I want my rights, I want autonomy,” concluding, “Elect women, not misogyny.”
hamilton also support Harris is running in the 2024 presidential election, admitting that he voted for her and donated $500 to her campaign on July 23, 2024, two days after former President Joe Biden ended his re-election bid.
The children’s ministry message is the latest development for the Hamilton church to come under scrutiny since the pastor launched a campaign to oust incumbent Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) in November.
Breitbart News previously reported report Resurrection Church, the largest United Methodist church in the United States, partners with Kansas City Pride to sponsor the Drag Queen Story Time and Gay Pride Festival. The image shows the church as a sponsor of Pride 2025 and also advertises the event’s “Youth and Teen Tent,” which promotes stage performances, free books, story times, arts and crafts projects and other activities.
Hamilton, who has publicly supported affirming same-sex marriage, legal abortion and Black Lives Matter within the United Methodist Church, questioned traditional interpretations of the Bible at a 2015 pastors panel hosted by the LGBTQ-affirming Reformation Project. Describing how congregants who came out to him prompted him to reconsider his understanding of the Bible, Hamilton asked, “How much latitude do we have to refute it? Where do we say, you know, ‘I think Paul is wrong?'” He later argued in a January 2025 sermon that churches that banned women from preaching had misinterpreted Paul’s letters.

Hamilton cited CS Lewis and John Wesley when discussing his understanding of salvation, and each stated that the Bible contained “hundreds” of errors or fallacies.

Scott Moore is accused of molesting teenage boys at retreats in 2005 and 2006. Marshall accused Hamilton of allowing Moore to return as a counselor after an earlier accusation, when another child was allegedly victimized.
In a 2018 sermon, Hamilton quoted Jesus Christ’s warning that those who harm children would do well to have a millstone tied around their necks and thrown into the sea applies to the separation of immigrant families during the Trump administration. “When you see news reports of children crying and being taken away from their parents, you should view those stories in light of what Jesus said about what happens when you harm a child,” Hamilton said.
In a January 2020 sermon titled “What Would Jesus Say About Climate Change?” Hamilton discussed How beef consumption and cattle production contribute to greenhouse gas emissions. “Some of the things we grow because we like to eat them, like cattle, end up producing more carbon dioxide than other crops we can grow and other forms of food we can have,” he said. Kansas is the third largest beef-producing state in the United States, with approximately 5.8 million cattle and 2.9 million residents. Marshall criticized the remarks, while Hamilton’s campaign countered that the senator had previously discussed reducing methane emissions from cattle.

Hamilton also owns a vacation property in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri, worth nearly $1 million, and a primary residence in Stilwell, Kansas, reportedly worth about $1.4 million. The revelations come as Hamilton pushes back against the influence of billionaires and special interests in politics.
