A Norway spruce from upstate New York has been selected as the 2026 Rockefeller Center Christmas tree.
The announcement was made on Monday, ten days before the tree is to be cut down and shipped nearly 200 miles to its new home in New York City.
This year’s tree comes from a property in West Edmeston, County Ostergo. Crews are expected to cut down the tree on Nov. 5 and then transport the bare Norway spruce to its new home two days later on Nov. 7.
The tree will be placed upright in Rockefeller Plaza and will be decorated for weeks with tens of thousands of lights and the iconic Swarovski star.
Fans eagerly awaiting the annual tree lighting event will only have to wait until December 2, when the official “Christmas at Rockefeller Center” live show will kick off the holiday season.
This year’s tree will be on display until January 9.

What happens after the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree falls?
The tree went from providing Christmas cheer to providing housing.
When the tree is dismantled, it will be placed in Rockefeller Plaza before being cut and transported to a yard in New Jersey. There, it was milled into two-by-four and two-by-six beams and stamped with the Rockefeller Center stamp.
Tishman Speyer, which owns and operates Rockefeller Center, then donates the wood to Habitat for Humanity, a nonprofit that helps build and improve housing across the country.
