Vice President J.D. Vance fired back at Barack Obama on Thursday after the former president compared the current appearance of the White House to the Cheesecake Factory run by Saddam Hussein.
“I don’t quite get it. I kind of like The Cheesecake Factory,” Vance said of Obama’s jab during a Texas town hall event hosted by Fox News’ Jesse Waters.
“I think this is like a good example of how Obama isn’t even trying to be super elitist, but he can’t help himself from being super elitist,” the vice president argued.
“Remember, this is the guy who said people who want good jobs ‘stick to their guns and their religion,’ as if God and the Second Amendment were something to be ashamed of,” he added.
Vance tried to mock President Trump, saying Obama “demonstrated how out of touch the Democratic Party is with real Americans.”
Obama launched his criticism of the decorations during a campaign speech for Democrats in Ohio on Saturday, accusing Trump of spending more time decorating the White House instead of helping Americans.
“I mean, I don’t know if you noticed, but he seems very focused on home improvements,” Obama said. “He should be on HGTV.”
“He makes the White House look like Saddam Hussein opened a cheesecake factory.”
Waters noted that Obama appeared to backtrack on his criticism at a rally in Atlanta on Wednesday, insisting that as a “father of two daughters,” The Cheesecake Factory had been “my jam for about a decade.”
“Look, that’s kind of the point, but … he realized, ‘Oh, a lot of the people we want to vote for us actually like The Cheesecake Factory,'” Vance explained.
The vice president added that the restaurant was “the most obnoxiously weird restaurant.”
“The menu is about 75 pages long, so there’s something for everyone,” he joked.
“I just don’t get it. Like, I could imagine beating some restaurant — not The Cheesecake Factory,” Vance said. “Barak, don’t disturb us!”
Waters joked that the network’s next town hall will be held inside the Cheesecake Factory.
