SANTA ROSA, CALIF. – Amy’s Kitchen, a maker of convenient and frozen foods, plans to gradually close its Santa Rosa facility.
Plans call for production to move to the company’s facilities in Medford, Ore., and Pocatello, Idaho.
About 260 roles will be eliminated as part of the transition, with 207 roles set to be cut at the Santa Rosa facility and about 51 roles eliminated at the Pocatello facility in the canning area.
Amy’s Kitchen said canning will be moved to the company’s Medford facility, which will also manufacture pizza, soup and burritos. The Pocatello facility will be the company’s designated entree facility.
The facility closures come as the company says it is making changes to its manufacturing network so that each facility can focus on its strongest product categories.
“We looked at all the alternatives before we landed here,” said Paul Schiefer, who was hired as Amy’s Kitchen chief executive officer in April. “We have a loyal workforce here in Santa Rosa, and we are very grateful for all that they have contributed.
“We know this decision has a real impact on the people we value. As we grow, our manufacturing network becomes more complex than our current business needs. Aligning our network on what is best for each facility is what makes Amy operate efficiently for the long term, for employees, retailers, and families who rely on food.”
