Chris Pratt reveals how filming Vatican documentary deepened his faith

Actor Chris Pratt says his collaboration with Pope Leo XIV on an upcoming Vatican documentary exploring the tomb of St. Peter has had a profound impact on his faith.

“Pétros Ení — Exploring Origins” explores the history and archaeological discoveries surrounding the tomb of St. Peter in the Vatican. According to EWTN, the documentary, produced by AF Films in partnership with Vatican Media and the Fabric of St. Peter, commemorates the 400th anniversary of the consecration of St. Peter’s Basilica on November 18, 1626. In the film, Pratt and Pope Leo examine the site’s history and use IMAX drone cameras to capture the Vatican’s historic surroundings.

“It was profound to encounter the remains of one of the apostles of Jesus,” Platt told Variety in a red carpet interview while promoting the second season of his show The Terminal List.

“[Jesus] It says that the church is to be built on the rock. Simon Peter is the rock. So to be able to come there some 2,000 years later and see this church and see the prophecies of his words come true is really meaningful to me,” Platt said in a brief interview.

Pratt is best known for his roles in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Jurassic World.” In recent years, he has become more outspoken about his Christian faith. He is married to Catholic Katherine Schwarzenegger and regularly attends Mass with her while raising their children in the church.

The actor has also frequently supported veterans and has faced criticism from liberals online for what he considers conservative views, even though he generally stays out of politics.

Platt previously told Vatican News that the film helped him deepen his faith.

“I hope viewers will come away from this documentary understanding that Peter was an imperfect human being,” Platt said. “He was a weak man. He was a human being. I believe we are all broken, imperfect and weak. But his strength was the grace of Jesus and his faith in God. And with that strength, through grace and faith, you can be incredibly strong.”

“It is an incredible privilege to work with Pope Leo and the Vatican on this project. The story of St. Peter is fundamental to the Christian faith, and I am deeply grateful for the trust and opportunity they have given me to bring his legacy to the screen,” Platt said.

“Pétros Ení — Discovering the Origins” is scheduled to be released in the United States in February 2027.
