An Agoura Hills rabbi has been charged with murder in the death of a man in Southern California’s newest Costco parking lot, according to authorities and jail records.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement Wednesday that it received a call Tuesday night that a man had been struck by a vehicle near a Costco gas station in Camarillo.
Witnesses directed officers to identify the driver of the vehicle involved, Abba Bryski. Blesky was taken into custody.
Breschi was arrested some time later and booked into the Ventura County Jail on one count of murder, the statement said.
A watch commander could not immediately provide details about Bryski’s arrest.
Bryski was arrested Tuesday at 8:40 p.m., according to jail records. He was jailed shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday. According to jail records, his occupation is listed as “educator/rabbi.”
He faces two charges: one count of felony murder and one count of resisting, obstructing or delaying a police officer or emergency medical technician, according to jail records.
The Sheriff’s Office identified the victim only as a 28-year-old Modesto man. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, the statement said. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
The Times previously reported that the Camarillo Costco warehouse has not yet opened to shoppers — the planned opening date is Oct. 30 — but the 32-station gas station began operating in May.
It’s unclear whether the killing will delay the store’s opening.
Costco representatives could not immediately be reached for comment.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau is investigating the case as a homicide. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Det. Erik Hernandez at (805) 384-4729 or Det. Gerardo Cruz, (805) 384-4726.
It was unclear whether Bleski had an attorney. A hearing is scheduled for Friday in Ventura County Superior Court.
