Connecticut U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy is hospitalized after suffering a stroke, his chief of staff says.
Murphy’s chief of staff said in a statement that Murphy began feeling numbness in his arm at his son’s hockey game on Saturday. He was taken to a local hospital, where doctors determined he had suffered a stroke.
Murphy was transferred to Johns Hopkins for further monitoring and is responding well to treatment.
“Doctors are encouraged by his progress, he is awake and alert, and we are optimistic that he will make a full recovery,” the statement said in part.
Murphy has served in the U.S. Senate since 2013.
Following Senator Murphy’s hospitalization, several lawmakers issued statements:

I’m glad to hear he’s doing a great job, and I look forward to continuing to work together to support the people of Connecticut. We all wish Chris a speedy recovery and keep him in our prayers.”
