Airlines waive change fees after Easter attacks in Northeast China

As the Northeast is threatened, major airlines are allowing passengers to rebook flights in the Northeast for free.

American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue Airways and United Airlines have issued travel advisories to travelers flying to, departing from or passing through multiple airports in the region this weekend, including New York’s LaGuardia Airport and Boston’s Logan Airport.

Passengers can change their flights to the new date by September 29 or 30 at the latest, depending on the airline. Airports affected by the travel warning cover airports from Virginia to Maine.

The warnings come as a major nor’easter hits the East Coast on Saturday. New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency in parts of the state on Friday.

“The rain is coming down, although it’s only about a half-inch so far, but mark my words: There’s more to come,” Hochul said at a news conference Saturday morning.

As of Saturday afternoon, more than 87,000 customers in the region were without power, including nearly 35,000 in New York, according to PowerOutage.com.

As of Saturday afternoon, more than 260 flights had been canceled at Boston’s Logan Airport.
