A’ja Wilson opens up about fan confrontation after Aces clears fever

The Las Vegas Aces moved on from a 94-83 win over the Indiana Fever in Game 3, with A’ja Wilson leading the way in front of their home fans.

Wilson showed why she’s a four-time league MVP by being aggressive and physical in the paint, battling rabid players including All-Star Aliyah Boston to score and rebound. She ended up with 36 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks and 1 assist to win the big win.

The game came two nights after Wilson got into a heated argument with a fan in Indiana. In the fourth quarter of Game 2, Wilson walked into the crowd to confront a fan who stood up, pointed at her and said something to her after fouling player Sophie Cunningham.

“I have my days, I have my moments because I’m human, but after a while I understood that I didn’t want this to be a distraction for myself and my team, and I knew what we had to do tonight,” Wilson told reporters at the post-game press conference.

“So I put it behind me. I prayed a lot, I cried a lot, I talked to a lot of different people, and the amount of love and Bible verses I received today, it reminded me that I’m covered, so I can’t really worry about anything else. I’m grateful to have people around me who continue to encourage me,” she said. “Once I put that aside, I just had to step up and go out there for my team today and I’m happy we got the win.”

Wilson received a technical foul for leaving the court to confront a fan days earlier in Indiana. The fan was briefly removed from his seat in the fourth quarter, but later returned after it was determined the fan had done nothing wrong.

Fever released a statement regarding their investigation into the incident. The league issued the decision after reviewing the situation on Thursday ahead of Game 3 of the Fever-Aces series. According to The Athletic , the WNBA decided there would be no additional impact on what happened to Wilson during the confrontation.

Based on this past season, Wilson remains the favorite to win a fifth WNBA Most Valuable Player award. She also led her team to add a fourth championship to her impressive career accolades.

With the Game 3 win, the Aces now await their WNBA playoff semifinal opponent, which will be decided in Friday night’s Game 3 between the Dallas Wings and Golden State Warriors.
