Brendan Gill: Questioning Ilhan Omar’s immigration status is not racist

During Wednesday’s appearance on Fox News Channel’s “The Will Cain Show,” Rep. Brendan Gill (R-Texas) reacted to a Department of Justice investigation that appears to be looking into the immigration status of his colleague Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).

The Texas Republican told host Will Kaine that there were “legitimate questions” about Omar’s immigration history.

“If you investigate Ilhan Omar, that’s racist, or if you question Somalia, you’re racist, what do you think about that?” Kane asked.

Gill responded: “It’s surprising that the left still uses racism so widely. You can ask the question whether there is an adequate system of rule of law, and that’s not racist. You can ask whether a country has a lot of corruption. That’s not a racist question. You can ask whether a country provides a safe and enabling environment, an environment conducive for its people to thrive.”

“This is not a racism issue,” he added. “I mean, any time there’s a very legitimate question raised about someone’s immigration status or what or how they came into the country, it’s certainly not a racist question. Those are not racist.”
