California incest man arrested in Mexico; teenage daughter rescued

A 14-year-old girl was rescued after giving birth to her father’s child on a California roadside, officials said. Amber Alert was issued last monthMonterey County officials confirmed Sunday night.

The girl was found in Mexico with her father, Sergio Galvez Perez, 38, who authorities accuse of abusing her and getting her pregnant. The newborn is dubbed “Baby Angelita” by law enforcement found dead Aug. 1 in the 100 block of Struve Road in north Monterey County.

It was unclear where in Mexico the girl and her father were found.

Perez was found in possession of drugs during a rescue operation conducted by the FBI and Mexican authorities, officials said. It’s unclear how he obtained them.

Authorities initially wanted Perez and the 14-year-old boy in connection with the infant’s death.

The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office later issued a statement clarifying that the 14-year-old girl was “a victim of abuse by her father.”

“No child should have to endure such a horrific situation,” the district attorney said in a September press release. “Our top priority is ensuring this young girl is safe and gets the supports and services she needs.”

However, many netizens expressed anger at the initial statement and update, which they said took too long.

“It’s time they started calling her a victim,” a Facebook user said in the post. “The police’s handling of this case was absolutely disgusting.”

According to the YouTube channel, Perez is a Mixtec musician named El Aguila Real y su Ritmo Sabroso.

Perez is suspected of multiple felonies: incest, lewd or lewd conduct with a child under 14, lewd conduct with a minor, unlawful sexual intercourse, concealment of a child and child endangerment.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said a news conference will be held at a later date.
