The Dallas Cowboys bounced back from last week’s disappointing last-second loss to the Baltimore Ravens to defeat the Houston Texans 34-30.
A big part of Sunday’s victory was the connection between quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who finished with 189 yards receiving and a touchdown. Prescott completed 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards and a touchdown to Lamb.
With this victory, the Cowboys’ star quarterback also reached a major career milestone. He officially tied with the legendary Roger Staubach for the second-most wins in franchise history.
Both players have reached 85 points, a milestone Staubach achieved a few years ago. The Cowboys superstar went on to win two Super Bowls with Dallas and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, both of which Prescott hopes to achieve during his time in the NFL.

He’s still chasing the Cowboys’ all-time win leader: three-time Super Bowl champion Troy Aikman. He had 94 wins before ending his career in Dallas and being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
That means Prescott needs nine more wins to tie Aikman and 10 more to break the record. Barring some kind of injury, he has a chance to break the record this season, but that also depends on how his team performs over the remainder of the schedule.
The team is now 2-2 after Sunday’s win. They have a short break before their next game as they take on the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday, October 8. Tampa Bay used rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels while Baker Mayfield recovers from a dislocated thumb injury.
“We have to come back tomorrow,” Prescott told CBS’ Pam Oliver after the team’s win over Houston. “It’s going to be a quick turnaround. Use that momentum, take advantage of what we did in the second half and keep going.”
Things get more challenging after Thursday’s game, when the Cowboys face the Green Bay Packers and Philadelphia Eagles before heading home to take on the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 1.
The Packers struggled but came away with a win on Sunday to move to 2-2. The Eagles lost to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday and are also 2-2. The Cardinals are 1-3 after losing to the New York Giants on Sunday.
The Cowboys need 11 wins this season for Prescott to tie the all-time wins record and 12 wins to become the franchise’s all-time leader. If not for this season, a healthy Prescott would likely hold this record into the 2027 NFL season.
