Dario Amodei to meet President Trump for rare dinner

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei will have dinner with President Donald Trump on Sunday, a person familiar with the matter told Business Insider.

On the menu? Some substantive discussions about artificial intelligence.

“President Trump has made it clear: America will lead the world in superintelligence while protecting American consumers,” a White House official told Business Insider, using Trump’s preferred term for the technology.

“We will drive innovation, enhance U.S. competitiveness and ensure this transformative technology works for the American people,” the official said.

Sunday’s evening will mark the first sit-down meeting between Anthropic’s chief executives and president. Meanwhile, Amodei’s calls for government regulation of cutting-edge artificial intelligence companies have gone largely unanswered among key power brokers in Washington.

In a recent post on Truth Social, Trump mocked Amodei and rejected his calls for regulation and a coordinated slowdown of cutting-edge artificial intelligence companies.

“The Trump administration has prevented artificial intelligence ‘people’ from doing bad things or ‘things’ that could do bad things, like Dario (a human!) who now pretends to be a ‘perfect little angel,’” the president said on September 14. “We will continue to do that!”

Notably, Amodai was absent from the tech giants summit held at the White House last week during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States.

Last year, Amodei and Trump attended the Artificial Intelligence and Energy Summit in Pennsylvania. Amodei said at the time that the two had “a good conversation about U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence.”

Axios first reported news of Sunday’s dinner.

Although Trump has repeatedly said he is not interested in regulating the U.S. artificial intelligence industry to stay ahead of the curve, the president last week announced a new “artificial intelligence force” that he said will “oversee” the industry.

Since Trump’s post last week, no further details about the artificial intelligence force have emerged. Trump also said he would name a new “artificial intelligence czar,” but he has yet to do so, although he did say Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant was not in the running for the position.
