The Detroit Lions improved to 3-2 in the 2026 NFL season with a dominant victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. But for many Lions players and coaches, the game was secondary after some tragic news about the wife of longtime Lions broadcaster Dan Miller.
Miller, who has worked in the local Lions broadcast booth since 2005, did not attend Sunday’s game after his wife, Cindy Miller, died on Saturday at the age of 63.
After Sunday’s win, Goff was the first person within the Lions organization to publicly express how worried the Miller family was after learning the tragic news.

During his postgame interview, Goff shared a touching message to Dan Miller, letting him know how much he means to the Lions.
“Yes, we’re thinking about Dan,” Goff said, fighting back tears. “Yeah, sorry…we’re thinking of you, Dan. Love you, man…he’s just a huge part of the culture here. He really is. His voice is a part of Lions football and he means so much to us. He’s part of our family. I talk to him every week. I know he’s in our hearts right now and we have him in our prayers.”
Lions head coach Dan Campbell echoed that sentiment in large part about how much the Lions organization likes Miller. During the postgame press conference after the game, Campbell handed the game ball to Miller.
“This ball belongs to Dan Miller and his family,” Campbell said. “It’s hard to hear what they went through. I know it was a hard road for Dan. This was for him. The backbone of the earth, man, Dan was the backbone of the earth. I know it was tough. But now I know Cindy is at peace. We love you Dan and thank you.”
The Detroit Lions will be off in Week 6 (the bye week) before taking on the Green Bay Packers in Week 7.
