NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee inmate Christa Pike survived an attempted execution by Tennessee and is awake and talking while being treated at a hospital, her attorneys said Tuesday.

“Despite the odds, Krista Pike is conscious, talking, and continues to receive emergency medical care. Despite the severe injuries to her arms, she remains handcuffed and chained to a bed. Her recovery has been medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear, but at least we anticipate a long-term recovery,” Pike’s attorneys said in a statement.
Her attorneys said they were grateful to the hospital’s first responders and medical team “who treated Krista like a human being and provided her with exceptional care.”
The announcement is the first sign that Parker’s condition is improving since he was taken by ambulance from the Nashville jail last Wednesday.
When Tennessee officials attempted to execute Pike, Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital.
