Launched at Futurecom 2026, the GPS cow ear tag designed by Quectel, with Acceleronix eSIM connectivity and ACX Core device management, offers livestock farmers real-time herd and animal health management, virtual fencing and data for credit operations using cattle as collateral through the iBOI platform.
Acceleronix, iBOI and Quectel today announced at Futurecom 2026 a new generation of GPS cattle ear tags for real-time monitoring.
Integrated with iBOI’s livestock and animal health management platform, the device connects individuals keep an eye on the animals for livestock management so that animals can be used as collateral in credit operations.
This solution was developed for the reality of Brazilian farms and designed for international scale. The collaboration brings together three parts of the value chain that are usually handled separately: Quectel designs and manufactures GPS ear tags, Acceleronix provides eSIM connectivity for initial deployment and device management through ACX Core for product life, and iBOI provides the platform, offering real-time animal inventory and full lot management, with entry and exit between each time, pad, transfer, and time out between all time and time out. herd statements in arrobas, weight progress, average daily gain (ADG), body condition scores and herd performance and health indicators, consolidating information for individual and multi-level monitoring.
Quectel has developed GPS ear tags, with temperature sensors, step counters and RFID, as a turnkey design and manufacturing project, drawing on cellular and GNSS expertise to match connectivity and positioning into a compact form factor built for livestock operations. Acceleronix provides eSIM-based connectivity for production, integration and early field deployment, along with IoT middleware and device lifecycle management through the ACX Core platform, designed to operate independently of the underlying connectivity provider.
A GPS cattle tag must work within hard limits in size and power and remain in the field for a full time without maintenance. To overcome these constraints, the device uses lightweight M2M (LwM2M) for device communication, monitoring and remote management over cellular networks. The protocol keeps transmission to a minimum while still giving operators clear visibility into device health, connectivity and battery status.
In addition, iBOI integrates its management SaaS platform with ACX Core through the platform’s standard interface. The integration transforms location data into a virtual fence that allows users to define management areas, see how animals are distributed and identify exits from the defined perimeter, with alerts for escapes, breakouts and unauthorized movements. Monitoring also includes alerts due to lack of movement, abnormal behavior, location anomalies and temperature changes, and allows iBOI to concentrate on services delivered to livestock farmers rather than infrastructure.
For Quectel, the challenge is balance. “GPS ear tags require a careful trade-off between size, position, cellular performance and battery life,” said Ricardo Simon, Regional Sales Director at Quectel. “Our turnkey design and manufacturing capabilities combine these elements in IoT devices built for demanding field conditions.”
Artur Couto, Head of LATAM Sales at Acceleronix, shared the connectivity decision:
“Connectivity must be planned for the full life of the device, and it starts on the production line.”
“We provide eSIM-based connectivity from production through initial deployment, while ACX Core gives iBOI the middleware and device management needed to run fleets at scale, regardless of the mobile network used.”
“Livestock farmers need to know how many animals they have, where they are, how they are developing and what needs attention. iBOI integrates this information in the animal and animal health management platform, with virtual fences and signs that support the daily farm routine. Our methodology also extends this monitoring to credit operations, allowing banks to follow the animals used as collateral,” said Felippe Antonelle, Executive Vice President at iBOI.
