Quest Diagnostics confirmed that patient health information or personally identifiable information was involved in a cyber security breach that caused the medical testing giant to suspend access to some of its systems.
The New Jersey-based company said someone disabled access to the Quanum Lab Services Manager (LSM) platform after discovering unauthorized access Wednesday. Quest expects to restore full functionality as soon as possible.
The platform allows certain healthcare providers to order laboratory tests and access the results.
Quest said some patient data had been accessed but was still investigating the specifics of the information involved and how many people were affected.

The company also temporarily paused access to Essential Insights and the LabHQ system as a precaution, even though no data was accessed on those systems.
Despite the temporary restrictions, Quest said its core business operations remain unaffected and its ability to serve patients has not been disrupted.
Healthcare providers who normally use Quanum LSM can continue to order through paper requisitions or the company’s Quanum eLabs platform. Other electronic ordering systems remain operational.
Quest says it has stopped unauthorized access and is working to restore affected systems. The company does not expect to delay testing for clients who do not use Quanum LSM.
CANADIAN RANOMWARE NEGOTIATOR ARRESTED ON FEDERAL CHARGES AMID FBI HACKING INVESTIGATION
In a Thursday filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Quest said it notified federal law enforcement authorities and asked outside cybersecurity experts to assist in its investigation and response.
The company said it is working to identify affected patients and healthcare providers and will notify them as required by applicable law.
Quest Diagnostics, one of the country’s leading providers of diagnostic testing services, reports revenue of approximately $11 billion by 2025.
The incident follows a previous cybersecurity breach involving a third-party billing provider that potentially exposed personal information held by millions of Quest patients.

In 2019, Quest announced that the American Medical Collection Agency had reported unauthorized access to systems containing information related to approximately 11.9 million Quest patients. The company said its own information technology systems were not involved in the incident.
Quest has not disclosed whether the latest breach will result in financial consequences, and declined further comment to FOX Business.
