News of a growing rift between Democrats who want to push a transgender agenda and those who want to focus on the economy hoping to win a majority in the House or Senate in 2027 comes as Americans prepare to vote in key midterm elections in just days.
Lawmakers and candidates are reportedly clashing with moderates over which path to take. Politico Article published on Tuesday.
“We need an affirmative action platform to protect and expand the rights of LGBTQ people,” Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass., said in an interview.
He is one of nearly a dozen lawmakers and supporters who have said they want Democrats to take a two-pronged approach: pass legislation codifying certain rights for transgender people and use committee gavels to force Trump officials to publicly testify about their efforts to undermine protections for transgender and non-binary people.
But the need to address affordability issues, rather than culture wars, has been a top theme in Democrats’ push to regain control of Congress. Many Democrats believe their promise to lower the cost of living will be the reason they win a majority in the House or Senate.
In fact, Breitbart News reported on October 5 that Claire Valdez, the Democratic candidate running for New York’s 7th Congressional District seat, recently confirmed that the “Transgender Rights Act” is one of the top issues she hopes the Democratic Party will address after regaining control of the U.S. House of Representatives.
Meanwhile, Breitbart News reported in February that Americans are starting to feel better about the economy, with more people saying the economy is on the right track and more saying their household finances have improved.
A few months later, a survey revealed economist/YouGov found that as the midterm elections approach, economic issues remain a top priority for Americans.
Additionally, “Americans have filed significantly more tax returns this year, which the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) attributes in part to President Donald Trump’s tax law,” Breitbart News highlighted in August.
Fox Business host Larry Kudlow and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent acknowledged in early September that the United States is experiencing an economic boom not seen in decades, and Breitbart News recently reported that Americans’ wages are outpacing inflation under President Donald Trump.
As the midterm elections approach, Trump has been rallying voters across the United States.
Matthew Boyle of Breitbart News wrote: “To listen to any Republican strategist or candidate ahead of next Tuesday’s election, the problem facing the Republican Party before November 3rd is this: Republicans must turn out voters to have a chance. Enthusiasm on the Democratic side is certainly high, given the national environment, where in any normal midterm election a party like the Democrats would be expected to lose power in both houses of Congress.
“But races are tightening everywhere, especially in the U.S. Senate battleground, where Democratic polls surged in late August into September and many of those seats fell, and the race is returning to average — meaning Republicans have a good chance of holding on to many seats that looked like they might have been lost a few weeks ago,” he continued.
