The New York Giants opened the 2026 NFL season with a 3-1 record, winning each of their final two games after starting quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a potentially season-ending knee injury.
Veteran backup Jameis Winston has emerged as the Giants’ No. 1 quarterback with back-to-back wins against the Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals. His performance wasn’t perfect, but it was enough to keep New York firmly on top of the NFC East.
The Giants acquired JJ McCarthy in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings last week, creating competition for Winston at quarterback.
However, all-time great tight end Rob Gronkowski believes this should be Winston’s job for the rest of the year.
“Is Jameis Winston the answer for the Giants this year? I think so. He’s 2-0 as a starter right now,” Gronkowski said. “I’m happy for Jamez to see what he’s done out there the past two weeks. 2-0. Hopefully he can be their starter for the rest of the year. He brings so much excitement to the game.”
The Giants hope to continue their positive momentum into Sunday’s Week 5 matchup against the division rival Washington Commanders.
