WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia takes on Floyd Mayweather and it’s going to be a real fight.
After rumors circulated on social media that the two would meet in the ring, Garcia claimed on X that they would fight for his welterweight title.
“Trust me, at first I thought this was BS***,” Garcia wrote on social media.
“But it’s true. Floyd and I agreed to fight for the WBC Welterweight Championship of the World at 147. 50-0 against the current champ,” Garcia wrote on X.
Garcia later posted a photo of the two chatting face-to-face, providing more information about his upcoming fight with Mayweather, with the caption: “Just got off the phone with @floydmayweather,” Garcia wrote. “Talk about fighting – this is real and he wants a real fight 147. He and I both agree to post this! Let’s Rumble 🥊👊”
He then commented under his post that they would fight for the “147th WBC World Championship.”
“I made it very clear that Floyd and I agreed to fight.”
The Uncrowned King’s Darshan Desai reports that an unnamed source told him that “at the time of writing, there have been no serious talks between Garcia and Mayweather.”
Garcia’s fight against Mayweather began earlier this month when the welterweight champion wrote on
Garcia went on to say that he didn’t want an exhibition match with him, writing: “I hope he gets 0 at the end. How much does he actually think he has left.”
“I’m ready, Floyd, remember you made that call. I’m just returning the favor. The offer is on the table. Take it or don’t take it, and if not, I’ll move on as before.”
While the Victorville native has been busy publicly condemning his opponent on social media, Mayweather has yet to respond.
Mayweather, who has a perfect 50-0 record with 27 knockouts, has not fought professionally since knocking out Conor McGregor in 2017.
Garcia has blossomed into one of the most promising young stars in the sport.
The 28-year-old Garcia has an impressive record of 26-2 with 21 knockouts and made it two consecutive wins with a unanimous decision win over Mario Barrios in February.
He and Connor Benn met in the ring at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas last September and won via knockout.
