Stokke Nighti crib review: It solves problems moms may not have thought of

Stokke has launched a new crib designed to accompany your child from birth to five years of age. For some moms, this might be the perfect solution for their kids’ sleep, and it might solve a problem that I can assure you you might not have thought of.

Preparing for a baby is extremely expensive, and a crib is often one of the most expensive items on a person’s registry. Therefore, parents don’t want to make the wrong choice when choosing what their child should sleep in, and with so many different options, it can be overwhelming.

Therefore, I will analyze in detail the pros and cons of the new Stokke Nighti 3-in-1 convertible crib.

A little bit about me so you know where I’m coming from with this review. I live in a two-bedroom apartment in New York City, all on one floor. Our apartment isn’t too small, but it’s not too big either, so the key things I look for in baby gear are its storage capacity, size, cost, and honestly, how it looks.

The Stokke Mini Newborn Cot is the standard size of a bassinet. What I like is that the shape is a rectangle with rounded edges. Why is this important, you ask? Well, many bassinets and newborn cribs are oval-shaped, which means maximizing storage space can be difficult because an oval shape doesn’t necessarily fit the room.

As someone with less space, the rectangular shape of the Stokke Mini Newborn Bed means I can easily fit things against its base. Now, the downside is that since it’s on wheels, you can’t store items underneath it, like a basket of blankets that some other bassinets can accommodate.

This brings me to my next point. Wheels are a great addition. At first, I thought, why do I need wheels. Then I propped the crib up against the bed and realized, I needed a way to get out of the bed, so I just unlocked the wheels and moved it slightly to the side. It was a smooth glide and I was confident I could do it without waking my baby.

Plus, in an apartment in New York City, I didn’t have enough space to put multiple cribs in each room for my newborn. (Have I already realized how important saving space is to me?) With the wheels, I can easily take it from the bedroom to the kitchen and living room without having to carry the baby or pick up the entire crib when I’m two hours into my sleep.

Of course, you can only use the smaller version for up to six months, but you can buy extension kits to turn it into a standard crib and toddler bed. Of course, if you have a small space, that means you’ll have to store a full-size mattress and expansion set. However, the boxes are relatively small and I could tuck them into the wall behind the Nighti mini. Doesn’t it look amazing? Of course not. But this is New York City for you.

Now, this is the most important thing in this entire review because I didn’t even consider this when buying my first crib. That is, how high the crib is off the ground. When you’re a mom, you want to put your baby in his crib as gently as possible. As a small woman, this is much harder to do when the crib is already high off the ground.

The feet of the new Stokke crib are only a few inches high. This means that if you are shorter, or your nanny or grandparent is shorter, it will be easier to place your child in their crib when they are sleeping and you are desperately trying not to wake them.

Overall, this is a great choice for a crib and I would recommend it to moms if they need a convertible crib. However, if you’re just looking for a bassinet for your baby’s first few months, there are cheaper options out there that I think will work just as well.
