The baby is in critical condition after falling from his mother’s arms from a 15th-floor balcony when the two were allegedly pushed by the child’s monster father in the Bronx, The Washington Post has learned.
“They’re praying,” a hospital insider told The Washington Post of the 8-month-old’s condition. “She wasn’t doing well.”
Nathaly Ramirez, the 23-year-old mother of cherub Novalty Carrasco-Ramirez, was rushed to Jacobi Hospital after miraculously surviving a fall to her death on Tuesday. The infant has since been transferred to Cohen Children’s Medical Center in Queens.
Ramirez’s ex-boyfriend and Angel Novarti’s father, 31-year-old Angel Carrasco, fled but was arrested Wednesday by U.S. Marshals and the New York Police Department.
After the rampage, he was taken to Jacobi for a medical evaluation and faces charges of murder and attempted murder. His arraignment is still pending.
On Saturday, mourners gathered for a vigil in front of the building where Ramirez and her children were toppled.
About 200 people attended the vigil, which was decorated with purple and white balloons and heart-shaped candles and was sponsored by We All Very Matter (WARM), a group that helps provide funerals for victims of domestic violence.
Attendees chanted “Justice for Natalie” and “Long live Natalie”.
Ramirez’s heartbroken mother, who identified herself as Natalie, thanked everyone for attending the vigil and spoke of how her daughter “helped abuse women and men.”
“She loved truly,” the mother and grandmother told the crowd. “There was so much tenderness in her embrace, just peace.”
Photos of other victims of domestic violence, including Lovie Williams, were placed nearby.
Williams was found beaten to death on September 6 in his Washington Heights Apartments on West 156th Street in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Tiliek Shamel Thompson, 41, is charged with murder, strangulation, assault and child abandonment in connection with her death. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces.
Brianna Rios, a domestic violence survivor who was comforted by Ramirez, told attendees about the tragic mother’s encounter with Carrasco.
“It’s unfortunate that Natalie was added to this long list of beautiful faces and names,” Rios said.
Rios called for change in the area of domestic violence and “the protection of families, children and these beautiful women.”
“The police were called to Natalie’s house more than five times,” the 24-year-old said. “Natalie Ramirez’s killer was arrested twice – once for slapping her, and a second time for breaking into her home. … Not only was he able to come to her again, he was able to kill her.”
