Abdul Carter misses Giants practice with accidental calf injury

Abdulkat’s hot streak can cool down through his calves.

Carter did not practice with the Giants on Wednesday due to an unexpected calf injury, and the injury was unknown heading into Sunday’s game.

Carter, who has eight tackles, 12 quarterback pressures and one sack over the past two games, could be in danger of ending his 22-game career streak on Sunday against the Saints.

“He’s doing a great job,” head coach John Harbaugh said coyly.

The Giants are playing with fire by putting too much pressure on Carter on 92.2 percent of their defensive snaps over the past five games.

Is this sustainable?

“He’d probably say yes,” outside linebackers coach Charlie Bullen said recently. “He is young and will not tire. As a coach we have to keep the long term in mind and learn something from him.”

RT Jermaine Eluemunor (calf), LT Andrew Thomas (groin), CB Colton Hood (concussion) and S Tyler Nubin (neck) also did not participate.

TE Theo Johnson (neck), WR Darnell Mooney (neck), Greg Newsome II (groin) and S Jason Pinnock (concussion) were limited.

The JJ McCarthy package is a welcome “change of pace” for head coach John Harbaugh. Against the Commanders, he replaced Jameis Winston and had five steals (two of which were negated).

“What you see may not be all we have to offer him right now,” Harbaugh said. “To me, what’s the benefit of not using all the players to the best of their ability? We’re always going to look for opportunities to use our players and give them opportunities to help us win games. I think we’d be remiss if we didn’t try to do that.”

The Giants’ nine fumbles (four fumbles) were tied for sixth-most in the league.

“That’s been a focus since Day 1, but it’s still not good enough,” Harbaugh said. “So, we’ve got to get better at that. That’s probably the most important thing in our offense now, but really all the time. But the fact is, we have a lot of turnovers, way more than we should, and we’re making a mountain out of them.”

Since the Saints hired Tyler Shough as their starting quarterback midway through last season, 2022 first-round pick Chris Olave has emerged as one of the NFL’s best receivers.

“These two guys are connected now,” Harbaugh said. “[Shough] He’s been lighting it up since he started. But he’s still a young quarterback, so you can see all those factors. Well done, though. ”

The Giants signed OL Josh Gesky to the practice squad and waived DL CJ Ravenell.
