  • Missouri’s 2nd congressional district was thrown away in court. As recently as September, the Cook Political Report viewed it as solid red.
  • Indiana’s 5th District: Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz lost to Democrat J.D. Ford, one of several surprises on election night. Spartz won re-election in 2024 by just over 18 percentage points.
  • Kentucky’s 6th congressional district: The race between Democrat Zach Dembo and Republican Ralph Alvarado for the open seat was not expected to be competitive, but the election forecasters moved the GOP-held seat toward Democrats in recent weeks. Two years ago, away from Balk’s advantage.
  • Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district: Republican Rep. Bryan Steil, first elected in 2018, lost the race to Democrat Mitchell Berman. Texas

Republicans in the Lone Star State redrawn the House map last year with the goal of capturing as many as five seats held by Democrats. In the end, one seat fell to Republicans and two red districts went to Democrats. The shifts coincided with a series of victories for Texas Democrats across the state, which elected its first Democratic senator and governor in decades.

  • Texas 32nd District: This is the only redistricting seat that Texas Republicans have successfully wrested from Democrats. Republican Jace Yarbrough defeated Democrat Dan Barrios in the Dallas-area district.
  • Texas 15th congressional district: Democratic Tejano music star Bobby Pulido Defeated incumbent Rep. Monica de la Cruz In south Texas, a region with a large Latino population that went heavily Republican in 2024, it flipped back to Democrats this year because . The district was redistricted, displacing most of de la Cruz’s voters.
  • Texas 23rd District:Democrat Katie Padilla Stout beat Controversial Republican gun advocate Brandon Herrera. The district — which includes hundreds of miles of the US-Mexico border — was previously considered safely Republican, but it was left open after moderate Rep. Tony Gonzales Admit to having an affair and an employee who later committed suicide and resigned in April.

california

California voters approved their own redistricting plan after Texas redrawn its maps, aiming to move several California seats to the left. Democrats have picked up all five seats they hope to flip.

  • :Democrat Mike McGuire beat Republican Rep. James Gallagher just won the Northern California seat in June following the death of Republican Rep. Doug LaMalfa. But redistricting has made Gallagher’s path to re-election difficult.
  • California’s 6th congressional district: Rep. Kevin Kiley, a Republican-turned-independent who remains in the Republican caucuses, lost to Democrat Richard Pan. Kiley’s old seat, the 3rd District, was dramatically redrew and won by an incumbent Democrat who previously held the 6th, netting the Democratic Party one seat.
  • California 22nd District: Republican Rep. David Valadao Failed to run for re-election Democrat Randy Villegas became the last House Republican to vote to impeach President Trump over the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. It’s turning bluer in redistricting but is seen as the heaviest push for Democrats.
  • California 41st District: This district was shifted closer to Los Angeles and made much bluer, causing incumbent GOP Rep. Ken Calvert to move to another district while Democratic Rep. Linda Sánchez shifted from elsewhere to the 41st Sánchez.
  • California 48th District: Democrat Marni von Wilpert defeated Republican Jim Desmond in a district that is now bluer. The Southern California seat is currently held by Retired Republican Rep. • North Carolina’s 11th congressional district:Democrat Jamie Egger Flip control of the area Facing misconduct charges.
  • Colorado’s 8th congressional district:Democrat Manny Rutinelle beat Rep. Gabe Evans, the Republican who flipped the district red two years ago. The battlefield area extends north from Denver.
