SACRAMENTO — It hasn’t been a hot start to Luka Doncic’s season.
But on Wednesday night at Golden 1 Center, the Slovenian superstar continued his dominance in the 2026-27 season opener, scoring 40 points in his third straight game as the Lakers beat the Kings 116-103.
Doncic scored 40 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, leading the Lakers to a 7-2 victory.
As coach JJ Redick mentioned earlier this week, the superstar guard’s offensive rhythm is still loud.
Almost as loud as the cowbells ringing throughout Kings home court.
Doncic’s prolific scoring isn’t quite as efficient as the standard he set for himself at the start of the season.
He made 11 of 23 shots from the field and 6 of 13 three-pointers (12 of 13 free throws).
But his best performance was when he scored 11 consecutive points late in the second quarter, including three consecutive three-pointers, to help the Lakers lead 57-48 with 2.5 minutes left in the half.
After the two teams alternated the lead many times in the first half, the Lakers maintained the lead for the rest of the game.
With his performance against the Kings, Doncic became the first player in NBA history to score more than 35 points, more than 5 rebounds, more than 5 assists, and more than 5 three-pointers in six consecutive games.
Austin Reeves had 21 points and 4 assists. Walker Kessler had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 3 steals, while Ziaire Williams and Collin Sexton each scored 10 points off the bench.
