American Airlines flight diverted to New York due to bathroom emergency – NBC New York

A flight from Madrid to Dallas was unexpectedly diverted on Tuesday after crew members learned that most of the onboard bathrooms were out of order.

The American Airlines flight, scheduled for 10 hours, was diverted to New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport after six of the plane’s eight bathrooms malfunctioned.

“We only have two porta-potties on board,” the pilot radioed to air traffic controllers.

“You said there were only two porta-potties, right?” the air traffic controller replied.

“That’s for sure,” the pilot radioed back.

The FAA confirmed to the New York Times that “an insufficient number of available toilets” prompted the decision to reroute the plane. A few hours after landing, the plane continued to its final destination of Dallas, Texas.
