Blood pressure drug recall: Thousands of bottles recalled nationwide

Americans who take medication for high blood pressure may want to check their medicine cabinets after thousands of prescription drug bottles were recalled nationwide.

New Jersey-based Macleods Pharma USA is recalling several Olmesartan Medoxomil, Amlodipine and Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets after the drugs failed to meet federal quality standards, according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall includes 3,528 30-count bottles from lot 12251163A and 216 90-count bottles from lot 12251163B. Both lots expire on May 31, 2027.

Consumers can check prescription bottles for lot numbers and National Drug Codes, or NDCs. The recalled 30-count bottles have NDC 33342-246-07, while the 90-count bottles have NDC 33342-246-10.

The FDA listed the reason for the recall as “failed dissolution specification,” meaning the pill did not dissolve as well as it should have during testing.

The agency classified the action as a Class II recall, meaning that using the affected drug “may cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences” but the possibility of serious health consequences is considered remote.

Macleods Pharma USA started the recall on October 7, and the FDA classified it on October 26. The recall remains and affects the products distributed nationwide.

The recall comes weeks after another blood pressure drug was pulled from shelves due to similar problems.
