The framework of a new Iran deal is taking shape after a meeting between Tehran and Qatari mediators. A source with knowledge of the discussions told Breitbart News that the development was “positive negotiations.” The United States and Iran are currently separately reviewing the latest proposals from mediators aimed at bringing them closer to a new deal.
The update on diplomatic talks came shortly after President Donald Trump posted information about Iran on the Truth Social website on Monday afternoon. Trump tweeted, “Oil prices have plummeted, down nearly $10 a barrel, to record highs, as people believe there will not be a war with Iran. Iran wants a settlement soon. It can happen! President Donald J. Trump.”
According to CNBC, oil prices fell 7% on Monday, the largest one-day drop since July, on news that the two countries had restarted negotiations.
President Trump told reporters that Iran wants to “make a deal, that can happen” and kept his vow not to attack the embattled country ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections.
A military blockade of the Strait of Hormuz coupled with the U.S. Treasury Department’s economic exile campaign has strangled Iran’s economy, targeting banking infrastructure and depleting the country’s shadow tanker fleet.
Adm. Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, said in an X post on October 30 that he recently visited the region and saw commercial traffic safely passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Cooper said Iran’s Revolutionary Guards are not patrolling the strait as they have for decades because the Iranian navy is on the seabed. He added that Gulf partners had helped export 1.5 billion barrels of oil since the summer.
