Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota has denied using a pseudonym in the United States after a federal court filing identified her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi,” the same surname as her ex-husband Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. For years, there have been rumors that Said Elmi is Omar’s brother.
“My name is Ilhan Abdullahi Omar,” the Somali-born congresswoman told Fox 9.
According to Fox 9, Omar is listed as “Ilhan Omar” in his junior yearbook at Edison High School in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Last week, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro referred to Omar as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi” in a court filing, sparking years-long accusations that the congresswoman was at one point married to her brother.
“The court received three petitions to unsea ex parte materials and proceedings related to a federal search warrant for the personal residence of Congresswoman Ilhan Noor Said Elmi, also known as Ilhan Abdullahi Omar, in the District of Columbia,” the filing reads.
In an interview with MS NOW’s Chris Hayes last week, Omar was asked if she was related to her ex-husband. Omar responded, “Not that I know of,” a response that went viral.
Following the MS NOW interview, Fox News Digital published a report that, according to federal officials involved in the immigration investigation, Omar’s real name is “Ilhan Noor Said Elmi.”
This month, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents raided Omar’s Washington, D.C., home and took 17 items from the congresswoman’s home. There were reports that agents obtained Omar’s DNA before the raid.
