Body camera footage released by the New York City Police Department shows the chaotic aftermath of a criminal illegal immigrant who was injured during an encounter with ICE on Thursday afternoon.

this lens New York City Police Department officers were shown arriving at the scene in the city’s Marble Hill neighborhood and taking 28-year-old Oscar Belgal to the hospital. Belgal, an illegal immigrant from the Dominican Republic who had been convicted and arrested multiple times, was shot and killed in his car during a targeted ICE enforcement operation.

Two NYPD officers emerged from their patrol car, approached a group of law enforcement officers and surrounded Bergal as he sat on the ground in handcuffs. A man who appears to be an ICE officer applies pressure to the wound.

Multiple vehicles cordoned off the scene as police faced an increasingly angry crowd.

NYPD officers lifted Berger into the back of the car and took him to a nearby hospital. One of the officers can be heard in the video telling another to apply pressure to Belgar’s wounds and informing the dispatcher that he was conscious and breathing.

Bergal was shot and killed by an ICE officer while trying to arrest him. ICE said Friday that Bergal crashed into two agency vehicles and sped toward police, who then opened fire. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tish said Belgar was pulling into a parking space when a plainclothes federal officer approached with his gun drawn. As Belgar drove forward, an officer fired seven times. A 5-year-old child was in the back seat of Belgal’s car and was not injured.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said Friday that the federal officers involved also wore body cameras that recorded the shooting. The video has not yet been released.

The Department of Homeland Security said Bergal had a previous conviction for grand larceny and was arrested on assault, robbery, drug possession and weapons charges. The department also said he has ties to the Trinitarios gang.

The shooting sparked a violent response from agitators, who clashed with law enforcement outside the hospital where Bergal was taken.

Footage of one clash showed rioters trying to knock down metal gates set up by police outside the hospital. Photos also showed masked men wearing turbans pushing down barriers. The New York Post reported that five people were arrested during the clashes.
