Gurwin Assisted Living celebrates 25 years of caring for LI seniors

Gurwin Jewish ~ Fay J. Lindner Residences assisted living marked 25 years of caring for Long Island seniors with a special anniversary celebration as part of National Assisted Living Week.

The week-long “Old Hollywood-style” celebration included a resident-led “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” fashion show, complete with a red carpet entrance featuring residents escorted by select Gurwin staff members.

The fashion show was followed by a special tribute recognizing five long-term employees who have dedicated decades of their careers to Gurwin and helped shape the community of assisted living from the beginning: Johanna Reid, medical assistant, Copiague; Nick Barrett, lead housekeeper, Elmont; AnnMarie Carroll, medicine assistant, Sayville; Yasmine St. Michel, resident care coordinator, Uniondale; and Samuel Rodriguez, housekeeper, Hauppauge.

The Brightway walk raised over $85K for the disability community

For the first time under its new name, Brightway Living & Learning, formerly the Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI), is holding its Annual Walk and Wellness Festival at Suffolk Credit Union Arena on Suffolk County Community College’s Brentwood Campus. The event raised more than $85,000, with families, staff, community members, supporters and supporters walking to support Brightway’s mission.

In addition to running the indoor arena, more than 20 local health and fitness partners, featuring dedicated tables by Community Care Rx and Northwell Health available interactive Wellness resources.

Funds raised will go directly to improving Brightway’s educational, residential, vocational and therapeutic services.

MSSN opened a new, modern operating room for expanded operations

Mount Sinai South Nassau this week opened new operating room (OR) suites in the Feil Family Pavilion that will expand access to advanced procedures at its Oceanside campus.

New operating rooms are being opened in stages. Five suites are now operational; the other four will become operational by the end of this year. The new suite is twice the size of some existing operating rooms, making it easier for larger surgical teams to work with cutting-edge technology and offer procedures that previously required patients to travel to Manhattan or the North Shore.

The suite features an open floor plan, high ceilings, improved lighting, and modern technology, including a robotic surgical assistant and a three-dimensional image-guided surgical system for minimally invasive and traditional procedures.

Maidenbaum partners with Sharsheret for cancer treatment programs

Moving forward with the “From the Community. For the Community,” Initiative, Maidenbaum Property Tax Reduction Group has partnered with the Sharsheret cancer organization, to create the Maidenbaum Endometrial Cancer Program.

The new program will create a permanent support structure for Sharsheret to further help those fighting endometrial, breast and ovarian cancer. Maidenbaum has worked with, and supported, Sharsheret, contributing to the organization since they began working together over a decade ago.

In addition to funding the permanent endowment, the Maidenbaum Property Tax Reduction Group supports Sharsheret by serving on the Tri-State Benefit Summer BBQ committee, which raises money each year for the organization.
