Trump’s policies reduce U.S. immigrant population

The total U.S. immigrant population will barely grow in 2025 under President Donald Trump’s low-immigration/high-productivity economic policies, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

The survey “shows that foreign-born people, also known as immigrants [legalized and illegal] Population reaches 50.4 million – a slight increase from 50.2 million in 2024 [survey]”, as well as 290 million Americans born in the United States, an Oct. 30 report from the Center for Immigration Studies said.

According to CIS, without Trump’s policies, the immigrant population would have increased by 2.4 million people in 2025.

Watch – seconds. Markwayne Mullin says the Department of Homeland Security under Trump is pushing migrants back across the border:

The overall migrant population “increased by only 174,000 people from mid-2024 to mid-2025, compared with an increase of 2.4 million people from 2023 to 2024,” the report said. Interim data for 2026 show that from March 2025 to March 2026, the resident floating population further decreased by approximately 790,000 people.

The declines in 2025 and 2026 represent a dramatic reversal from the federal government’s pro-immigration policies dating back to 1965 and 1990, as well as President Joe Biden’s recent policies to welcome at least 8 million immigrants.

For decades, the federal government has boosted the nation’s economy by importing consumers, workers and renters from poor countries. The huge annual inflow includes many illegal immigrants, about 1 million temporary workers and about 1 million legal immigrants – in addition to 3.6 million births in the United States every year.

This economic policy of mass immigration and the resulting bubble of cheap labor has brought huge blessings to many employers and investors in many industries such as real estate, catering, hotels, and entertainment. The influx of money is also a huge gain for the Democratic Party’s urban political machine.

An influx of foreign graduates over the past two decades has helped boost profits in white-collar banking, insurance and technology industries.

But this extractive immigration policy has brought huge costs to Americans and their children.

These costs include reduced wages, reduced investment in the workplace and rising housing costs. Additional costs include more intrusive government, additional government debt, distorted schools, overcrowded hospitals, criminal damage, chaotic citizen diversity, and citizens losing political power in their own countries.

But since Trump won in 2024, his deputies have curbed the flow of legal immigrants at airports and stemmed the flow of illegal immigrants at the border. Cutting off additional labor forces employers to invest in productivity-enhancing technology and raise wages for Americans.

“We’re going to need robots… to make our economy work because we don’t have enough people,” Trump told Breitbart News in August, adding:

We don’t have enough people to do this. So we have to be more efficient…we might add [the existing workforce] Through robots – which will be robots… we will simplify things. We need efficiency.

Reduced U.S. reliance on immigrants also helps poor countries expand their skilled workforce and attract wealth-expanding investment.
