Israel calls Green Zionism ruling a ‘stain on British history’

Israel condemned the British Green Party’s claim that Zionism is a form of racism, calling it a “stain on British history” and called on the country’s political leaders to “unequivocally reject this twisted resolution.”

The Green Party of England and Wales backed a motion on Zionism at a conference in Brighton on Sunday. It defines Zionism as an ideology that supports a “nationalist Jewish state” and a “unitary democratic Palestinian state in historic Palestine”.

“The real, material manifestation of Zionism is the historic and ongoing dehumanization, displacement, dispossession, disenfranchisement and destruction of Palestinians,” the report states.

The motion passed by 1,022 votes to 813, indicating divisions within the party on the issue.

The State of Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded in a post on X that the party “has ceased to act as a political party and has become an institution that gives legitimacy to terrorism.”

“The Green Party has not only adopted the color green of Hamas, but also its ideology: the annihilation of the State of Israel through armed struggle,” the statement read. “The shocking resolution passed today legitimizes armed struggle, calls for the establishment of a Palestinian state ‘from river to sea’ — which means the destruction of the State of Israel — and labels the Jewish people’s desire for self-determination as ‘racist.'”

“This goes far beyond the bounds of legitimate political debate. As long as this resolution remains, it will be a stain on British history. Every political party in the UK, starting with the governing Labor Party, must unequivocally reject this twisted resolution.”

This is a developing story—and there are many more to tell.
