Bronx man shot by police after shooting at police: Source – NBC New York

A man who allegedly fired at police was shot when officers returned fire, sending him to the hospital, law enforcement sources said.

The initial shooting occurred just after 3 p.m. on Bainbridge Avenue between East 194th Street and East 196th Street in the Fordham neighborhood, officials said. Law enforcement sources told NBC New York that police had received a call about someone threatening someone with a gun.

When police arrived, the suspect turned around, pointed a gun at them and then opened fire, sources said. No police officers were hit by gunfire.

Police then returned fire and shot the suspect at least three times, sources said. The suspect, whose identity has not been revealed, was taken to a nearby hospital and is said to be recovering.

Sources said two officers were taken to Jacobi Hospital with tinnitus.

The investigation is ongoing. It’s unclear what charges the suspect may face.
