Little Giant ladder recalled 3.6M units connected to falls, fracture injuries

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is recalling more than 3.6 million Little Giant ladders after receiving dozens of reports of injuries, including head trauma and skull fractures.

The ladder, according to the recall, had a mechanism called a “quick lock” that was designed to be inserted into the rung of the ladder to help adjust its height.

According to a statement from Little Giant, the lock can quickly fail completely, causing the ladder to retract and causing a fall hazard for consumers.

The company has received 25 reports of ladders tipping over, 19 of which resulted in injuries.

The recall covers 11 makes of Little Giant ladders and more than 130 models ranging from $100 to $1,000.

Little Giant added additional warning labels to affected ladders, instructing users to visually verify that all quick locks are engaged before climbing.

“You should stop using the ladder until you receive and apply the warning label included in the repair kit according to the attached instructions, which contain further instructions on operating the quick lock and maintaining the quick lock with lubrication,” Little Giant said in a statement announcing the recall.

The company is also sending repair kits to all known users with lock malfunctions as soon as possible.

“The repair kit contains instructions, also accessible via the QR code on the ladder, to operate the lock quickly and maintain the lock quickly with lubrication,” the company added.

The CPSC advises consumers to keep their Little Giant ladder locks in good condition by regularly lubricating and evaluating their ladders.

“If the lock does not function properly after this evaluation, the company will offer a choice of a replacement ladder of the same or equivalent model or a refund of the depreciated value determined by the date of purchase up to the full purchase price for ladders purchased within the past 12 months,” CPSC said in the recall.
