The NYPD is once again investigating another case of someone entering the city’s sewer system — this time, someone was spotted entering a manhole in Hamilton Heights.
Police officials said a 911 caller reported seeing at least three men entering through a manhole near West 141st Street and Hamilton Place around 1 a.m. Sunday.
A team of investigators from the New York Fire Department and New York Police Department rushed to the scene overnight to search for evidence in the sewer system to find traces of the mysterious crew. Detectives also went out to talk to neighbors in the afternoon.
“As a community, we have to come together and find out what’s going on so we can protect ourselves and our children,” a Hamilton Heights resident said Sunday afternoon.
This latest incident comes just two days after a group of five people were seen emerging from a manhole on the Upper East Side early Friday. Police are now looking for five people who drove off in a black SUV.
Authorities do not believe the so-called “drainage dive” was linked to anything nefarious. The NYPD said it has received multiple reports of people entering sewer systems looking for valuables and scrap metal after the storm.
The department said it had “robustly responded to these incidents” and would continue to respond as appropriate.
