During the “Monday Night Football” matchup between the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Rams, Matthew Stafford accomplished a rare feat that no other quarterback in NFL history has accomplished.
The reigning NFL MVP had a huge game as he threw his 150th touchdown pass while playing for the Rams. This makes him the only player in NFL history to catch 150 touchdown passes with two different teams. Stafford previously played for the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020.
Stafford showed off his talent against the Bills on Monday, completing 40 of 54 passes for 383 yards and three touchdowns. Two of his touchdowns came in the Rams’ high-scoring fourth quarter to Puka Nakua and Davante Adams, whom Stafford had previously found in the second quarter of the game.
While the historic feat came with a painful loss, the Rams seemed on the verge of defeating the Bills and improving to 3-2, but overtime didn’t quite have the home team’s expectations.

It was an exciting game at the SoFi Stadium that some might consider a preview of the Super Bowl. After trailing 13-7 at halftime, the Rams scored 27 points in the second half, including Kyren Williams’ rushing touchdown late in the fourth quarter to tie the game and send it into overtime.
After the Bills’ James Cook dropped the ball for the second time of the night, Stafford appeared to have his team in an ideal position to win the game. However, Buffalo stopped the Rams’ field goal, allowing Josh Allen to work his magic and lead the drive on Tyler Bass’ 45-yard field goal for the 37-34 win.
That leaves Stafford and the Rams with a disappointing 2-3 record to start the season, as a team many consider to be the favorite to win next year’s Super Bowl. However, they dealt with some injuries to start the season, including Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, who they traded to the Cleveland Browns in the offseason.
Garrett was placed on injured reserve (IR) in mid-September following arthroscopic surgery on his left knee. His return is considered “week by week”. According to ESPN, Rams head coach Sean McVay said they want Garrett to “return to performance,” not just “return to the team.”
With Monday night’s historic feat, Stafford has undoubtedly ascended into the ranks of superstar quarterbacks. He currently ranks sixth in touchdown passes and needs more than 70 touchdowns to pass the legendary Brett Favre for fifth place.
