Violent crime drops sharply after Trump’s nationwide crackdown

Violent crime and theft fell sharply during President Donald Trump’s first year in office, according to the Justice Department’s annual crime survey released Monday.

By 2025, fewer Americans will report being victims of heinous crimes such as robbery, rape, aggravated assault, vehicle theft or home invasion, according to the Department of Justice’s latest National Crime Victimization Survey. “This report proves that President Trump’s ‘Make America Safe Again’ agenda is working,” Deputy Attorney General Stanley Woodward told The Daily Telegraph. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Attorney General Branch, the safety of law-abiding Americans will always come first. This success reinforces our commitment to ensuring that every American can live, work, and raise their families without fear.”

The survey found that total violent crime victimizations, including rape/sexual assault, robbery and aggravated assault, dropped 25% in 2025, with 669,000 fewer violent crimes reported than in 2024. In 2024, there were 8.2 million reported victims of violent crime, compared with 7.5 million in 2025.
